Photo to Oil Painting

Upload a photo, or several taken apart, and get a painted portrait of the people you love in classic oil, Renaissance, impressionist, palette knife or watercolor style, ready to print.

Family, couple, memorial and pet paintings made from photos

Each painting started from everyday photos of AI-generated example people and pets, not real customers. Faces, ages and hairstyles stay as in the photos; the paint, the light and the background change.

The same photo works in every style. Pick one in the panel above, or try them one after another.

Classic oil

Classic oil

A realistic oil portrait on canvas with soft brushwork and warm light, in the clothes from your photo.

Renaissance

Renaissance

An old-master portrait: everyone in Renaissance dress, soft window light and a dark draped background.

Impressionist

Impressionist

Loose brushstrokes of pure color and bright sunlight in a garden in bloom.

Palette knife

Palette knife

Thick modern impasto laid on with a palette knife, bold colors, faces kept recognizable.

Watercolor

Watercolor

Soft transparent washes on white paper, light and gentle.

Photographed apart, painted together

Upload up to six photos: mom in the kitchen, dad on a work trip, your daughter in the schoolyard. Everyone is painted into one portrait, each person exactly once, with faces, ages and hair as in their own photo. A single photo of the family works too and keeps its poses.

A gentle memorial portrait from an old photo

A gentle memorial portrait from an old photo

An old, faded or black and white print of someone you miss is painted in natural color with the same care as a new photo. Add a recent photo of their partner and the two are painted side by side, as here. It is a tribute painting, not a real photo, and it is ready to print and frame.

At a glance

  • Upload a photo, or several taken apart, and get a painted portrait of the people you love in classic oil, Renaissance, impressionist, palette knife or watercolor style, ready to print.
  • Images are made with Nano Banana 2.1 by Google.
  • Each image costs 5 credits.
  • A print-quality 4K version costs 9 credits.
  • New accounts get 10 to 30 free credits depending on country, no card needed, so even the smallest allowance covers 2 images at 5 credits per image.
  • You can also pay once with no subscription: $0.99 for one image or $1.99 for three, and those credits stay valid for 12 months.
  • Images come out at 2K resolution, 1792 × 2400 pixels (3:4).
  • You upload up to 6 photos that go into one image together (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each).
  • Before creating, you confirm that the photos are of you or that everyone in them agreed.
  • A typical image is ready in about 60 seconds.
  • Free-plan downloads carry a small Vidney watermark; paid plans download without it, and so do downloads for 12 months after any one-time purchase.
  • Up to six photos per painting. The result is a digital painting file to print yourself, not a shipped canvas; small details such as jewelry, patterns and the background may be simplified, and the Renaissance style changes clothes on purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn a photo into an oil painting for free?

New accounts get free credits, enough for a first painting. Upload a photo above, pick a style and press Create. One painting costs 5 credits in standard 2K quality, however many photos you upload; print quality (4K) costs a little more, and the price is on the button before you confirm. Credits come with a subscription plan; the cheapest, Starter, is $9 a month. You can also pay once with no subscription: $0.99 for one image or $1.99 for three, and those credits stay valid for 12 months.

Is this a real hand-painted canvas?

No. It is a painting made by AI from your photo and delivered as an image file; nothing is painted by hand or shipped. The file is print-ready: tick print quality for a 4K file you can print at home or send to any canvas or poster print shop. It takes a minute or two instead of the weeks a commissioned painting takes, so you can try every style before you print one.

Can family members photographed apart be painted together?

Yes. Upload up to six photos, one person or several in each, and everyone is painted into one portrait, each person and pet exactly once. Faces, ages, hairstyles and skin tones stay as in their own photo. If someone is missing or appears twice, generate again with the same photos.

Can I make a memorial portrait of a loved one who has passed away?

Yes. Upload a clear photo of them from your own family album; an old, faded or black and white print works and is painted in natural color. Add a recent photo of their partner or the family to paint them together. The result is a tribute painting, not a real photo. Only use photos of your own family.

Which painting styles can I choose?

Classic oil portrait (the default), Renaissance old master, impressionist, modern palette knife and watercolor. The Renaissance style dresses everyone in period clothing; the others keep the clothes from your photo. Pets are painted with their own fur and markings. For a portrait of a pet on its own in a costume, such as royal or astronaut, use the AI Pet Portrait Generator linked on this page.

Do I own the image? Is there a watermark?

Yes, the painting is yours to use, print and give as a gift, including commercially, subject to the source model terms. Downloads on the free plan carry a small Vidney watermark; on any paid plan they download clean.
