Veo 3.1 vs Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, tested on the same prompts
Same three prompts, same settings, one take each. Here is every clip as it came out, what each one costs and how long it took.
The short version
- Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash won all 3 rounds: it staged the frisbee catch, spoke the line word for word and orbited the bottle with the gold label in view.
- Veo 3.1 Fast's dialogue request was blocked by a safety filter on both submits, so that round has no Veo clip. Vidney refunds blocked runs.
- One 4-second 720p clip with sound costs $1.26 on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash (42 credits) and $1.44 on Veo 3.1 Fast (48 credits).
- Both are quick: 62 s on average for Omni and 67 s for Veo, from submit to finished file.
- Veo 3.1 Fast had the most striking light of the test, a backlit golden park, but it skipped the catch and laid the perfume bottle on its side.
How we tested
We gave Veo 3.1 Fast and Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash the same three English prompts on October 24, 2026: a motion shot, a line of dialogue and a product close-up. Every clip ran once at 4 seconds, 16:9 and 720p, with sound switched on wherever it is a setting, through the same generation path Vidney users get. There was one take per model and prompt, and we did not pick between takes. Clips are shown unedited, only compressed for the web. Generation time runs from submitting the job to the finished file and was measured with all clips submitted at once. We watched every clip frame by frame and transcribed the dialogue before writing a verdict.
Round 1: motion
A dog, a frisbee and a camera that has to keep up. Does the catch look physical?
A golden retriever sprints across a sunny park lawn, leaps and catches a red frisbee in its mouth in mid-air, lands and keeps running toward the camera. Low tracking shot at the dog's eye level, real-time speed, natural sound of paws on grass and birds in the trees.
Veo 3.1 Fast
$1.44 per clip · ready in 73 s
Warm backlight and a low tracking camera make this the best-looking frame of the test. But the dog has the frisbee in its mouth from the first frame, never leaps or catches, and runs across the frame instead of toward the camera.

The frisbee flies in from the top right at about one second; the dog hops, catches it and turns to run at the camera, which tracks at its eye level. The leap is small, but every beat of the prompt is there.

Round 2: dialogue with sound
One scripted line. We transcribed every clip to check the words and watched the lips.
Medium close-up in a cozy café. A woman in her thirties with curly dark hair and a green sweater looks into the camera, smiles and says, "Honestly, this is the best coffee in town." Soft background chatter and the hiss of an espresso machine. Static camera. No clip
Blocked by a safety filter before any video was made (2 submits of the same prompt). Vidney refunds blocked runs.
Veo 3.1 Fast
$1.44 per clip · blocked
We submitted the prompt twice, unchanged. Both times the request was stopped by a safety filter about a minute after it was queued, before any video was made.

Round 3: product shot with text
A slow orbit, glass, water and a four-letter label. Does the label stay readable?
A slow orbit around a frosted glass perfume bottle standing on wet black stone. The label on the bottle reads "NOIR" in gold capital letters. Water droplets slide down the glass and a thin mist drifts behind it, warm rim light. Macro product shot, shallow depth of field, soft ambient music.
Veo 3.1 Fast
$1.44 per clip · ready in 61 s
Bold, crisp "NOIR" lettering and rich droplets. But the bottle lies on its side instead of standing, the camera pushes in rather than orbiting, and liquid starts dripping from the open neck near the end.

Gemini Omni 1.1 FlashRound winner
$1.26 per clip · ready in 54 s
The camera starts on the narrow side of a standing bottle and orbits to the front, so the gold "NOIR" lettering turns into view and stays sharp. Swirling smoke, droplets and wet stone, as written.

Frequently asked questions
Is Gemini Omni Flash better than Veo 3.1?
In our test, yes: Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash won all three rounds against Veo 3.1 Fast. It staged the frisbee catch, delivered the dialogue word for word and orbited the bottle with the gold label in view. Veo 3.1 Fast had the nicest light but skipped the catch, laid the bottle on its side, and its dialogue request was blocked twice.
Why did Veo 3.1 refuse the dialogue prompt?
The error only says the input was flagged by a safety filter; it does not say which part. The prompt describes a woman in a café saying one line about coffee. It was blocked both times we submitted it, about a minute after queuing. We did not reword it, because the test gives both models the same prompt. On Vidney a blocked run is refunded.
Which is cheaper, Veo 3.1 or Gemini Omni Flash?
Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash at the same settings: $1.26 (42 credits) for a 4-second 720p clip with sound on Vidney, against $1.44 (48 credits) for Veo 3.1 Fast, at the Starter plan rate.
Which one generates faster?
Both are fast. Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash averaged 62 seconds from submitting the job to a finished file and Veo 3.1 Fast averaged 67 seconds, with all clips submitted at the same moment.
Do both models make sound?
Yes. On Vidney both always generate a soundtrack with the picture, and there is no switch to turn it off.
Which Veo 3.1 tier did you test?
Veo 3.1 Fast. On Vidney, Veo 3.1 also comes in Lite and Quality tiers, which this test did not cover.
Can I try them for free?
New Vidney accounts get 10 to 30 free credits depending on the country. The cheapest run is 42 credits on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash (4 s, 720p) and 48 credits on Veo 3.1 Fast (4 s, 720p), so running either one needs purchased credits.
How was this test run?
On October 24, 2026, on Vidney: the same English prompt for both models, 4 seconds, 16:9, 720p, one take per prompt, shown unedited. The one refused Veo prompt was resubmitted once, unchanged. We checked every clip frame by frame and transcribed the dialogue.
